Privacy Policy
This policy explains, in plain language for California and Oregon users, what Oregon Truffle Maps does and does not do with information on your device. We aim to keep the app useful for education and habitat context without collecting a personal profile about you.
Who we are
Oregon Truffle Maps is published by Stillwild Cam (stillwildcam) through Wendy’s Google Play developer account. Contact: stillwildcam@gmail.com.
What the app is
Oregon Truffle Maps provides free educational content about Oregon truffles (species ID, habitat, ripening, harvest ethics and law, Keep & Ship guidance, and personal field notes). Optional paid map unlocks (1–5 maps per species, $14.99–$74.99) and a Truffle Dogs pack ($9.99) are offered as in-app purchases via Google Play Billing. Map packs show regional obscured habitat boxes drawn from a curated patch pool — they are not live GPS tracking of you or other users, and they are not dig pins or permission to enter land.
What we collect
The app does not run a developer account database or sync your patch log / unlock state to a Stillwild Cam server.
On your device, the app may store locally (for example in browser / WebView storage such as localStorage):
- Optional local name and buyer email (shared-phone handoff and purchase confirmation)
- Whether you accepted the in-app legal / permission notice
- Which species / map count you selected and which obscured patches were assigned after unlock
- Whether map or Truffle Dogs content is unlocked on this device
- Optional personal patch-log notes you type yourself (text and a timestamp you create)
- A short on-device purchase receipt log for support
Those items stay on the device unless you clear app data, use an in-app reset control, or your system wipes storage. We do not operate a sync backend that uploads your patch log or unlock state to us.
My Maps and PIN: Personal notes on My Maps and the optional PIN (stored only as a salted hash) are kept on this device only and are not sent anywhere or backed up.
Outbound purchase notice (email)
When you complete an in-app purchase (or a clearly marked demo unlock used for testing), the app may send a one-time purchase notice over HTTPS to a Google Apps Script endpoint controlled by the publisher. That notice can email stillwildcam@gmail.com (and optionally append a private spreadsheet row) with purchase time, product id, map count / species when known, Play transaction id when available, and the buyer email and name you entered on the device, plus whether the unlock was a demo / QA unlock.
This is so Wendy can confirm purchases and help with support. It is not a marketing list and is not continuous tracking. Guests may browse Learn without an email; email is required before Pay for maps or Truffle Dogs. If the notify URL is not configured or the network fails, your unlock still applies on device; the app will not pretend the notice succeeded.
What we don’t collect (and don’t do)
- No developer-operated analytics SDK is embedded in the current app code (no Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel, etc. from us)
- No cloud user account database — name/email stay on device except in the outbound purchase notice described above
- No continuous GPS tracking of you for maps; maps display pre-defined obscured habitat rings, not your live location trail
- The current app code does not call the device geolocation API to follow you
- We do not sell your personal information
If a future version adds analytics or cloud sync of field notes, we will update this policy before relying on those features.
Purchases (Google Play)
Paid map unlocks (map-count SKUs and optional add-on species) and the Truffle Dogs pack are sold as in-app purchases through Google Play Billing. Google processes payment. Google may collect and process purchase-related information under Google’s own policies. We receive purchase entitlement signals needed to unlock content; we do not receive or store your full payment card details in the app. Separately, the optional outbound purchase notice may email the publisher a short receipt with your on-device buyer email — not your card number.
Local device storage
Unlock flags and your optional patch log are stored on-device so the app can remember progress without an account. Clearing storage or using demo / reset controls removes that local state. Uninstalling the app typically removes app-local data as managed by Android / your browser.
Third parties
- Google Play — distribution, updates, and billing when you buy packs on Android.
- Google Apps Script / Gmail (purchase notice) — when a purchase notify URL is configured, a short HTTPS POST may deliver a purchase receipt email to stillwildcam@gmail.com (and optionally a private Sheet). Governed by Google’s terms for those services.
- Map tiles (Leaflet + CARTO / OpenStreetMap) — when you view maps, the app loads basemap tiles from CARTO’s CDN (data © OpenStreetMap contributors and © CARTO). Those requests go to third-party tile servers and may include standard technical data such as IP address and tile coordinates, governed by those providers’ terms — not by a developer analytics dashboard we control.
We do not currently integrate other advertising or tracking networks in the app source.
Maps are not permission
Habitat maps are educational / contextual only. They do not grant permission to trespass or harvest. You must follow landowner rules, public-land regulations, and the legal notice in the app. The publisher is not responsible for how you use the maps in the field.
Children’s privacy
Oregon Truffle Maps is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child provided information to us somehow (for example by emailing us), contact us and we will delete what we reasonably can.
California & Oregon (simple language)
We do not sell personal information. Notes, unlock state, and buyer email stay on your device except for the optional outbound purchase notice email to stillwildcam@gmail.com. To stop future notices, do not complete new purchases, or clear app storage. You can ask us to delete purchase-notice emails we received by contacting stillwildcam@gmail.com. For Play purchase history or Google account data, use Google’s tools and policies.
